Ever have a moment when everything in your life pretty much flashes before you? I did... along with Alex and Breyna in my backseat. It all changed for me on Tuesday, June 21st. As posted in an earlier blog, we just moved. Well, going along a road that I've been on before and thought I knew I must have been in a daze or something because before I knew it I was about to run a stop sign and there was nothing I could do about it. So I tried to turn onto the busy road hoping and praying I wouldn't hit any oncoming traffic. I missed the road, guess when you are going 45 mph, it isn't easy to stop so quick. I went through the intersection, clipped a lightpole that turned my car as I hit a telephone box and took out the telephone wires. At this point I have 2 young children in my backseat who are shaking and screaming and I don't know whether they are hurt, but I know that they have to at least be sore since I am. I see water from the radiater and heater core coming in the car so I try to get me and the kids out quick. I can't get out of my driver side door so I crawl across the seat and get out the passenger side. I get the kids out and try to calm them down as they sit in the shade.
I called 911 and rescue was sent out. A truck driver heading down stopped to bring the cable back that he apparently drug from where I knocked it over and gave us water. Breyna is ok but really shaken up. Alex has cuts on his belly and under his arm from the seatbelt and I have a goose egg on my head where I hit the side window and a cut on my neck from the seatbelt. The rescue squad checks us out and I tell them I think we are just sore, I will take us to the hospital after Wendell gets there. My car is totalled. They ask me where I want it towed, I'm thankful we are alive. They show me my tire tracks and point out that if we were 6 inches to the left, we would have hit the light pole head on and would have been way worse.... I immediately say a soft prayer.
At the hospital, me and Breyna check out. They do some x-rays on my chest and an EKG because I have a real bad bruise on my chest, everything comes back fine. It literally takes them 4 hrs to get an IV in Alex and they blow 6 veins in the process. He has a CT scan and bloodwork and an x-ray. He tells me in the room he is ok and I'm so frustrated that I'm about to leave...then the dr tells me that they have to transfer Alex to a trauma facility because he has a hematoma on his spleen and bruised lungs. I start panicking, I hurt my baby...I say another prayer. I ride with Alex in an ambulance to a hospital in Pensacola, FL where we are told that he has 3 broken ribs, the bruised lungs and a grade 1 laceration on his spleen. It is very critical to monitor him for the first 24-48 hrs because the spleen could bleed out and require surgery. He is taken to the PICU (Pediatric ICU) and observed while on bedrest. He is only given clear liquids in case of surgery...he hadn't eaten since 7:30a.m. and this is now 8:00p.m. He graduates to solids the next day and that afternoon he gets moved to the regular floor. This morning, we get to come home...
Now, Alex has 6 weeks of not being able to run, jog, jump or do anything strenuous. I say another prayer and thank God that my family is ok....
I will post pictures soon. I need to get a wireless router so I can use my laptop first...

oh my gosh, I'm glad you guys are all okay now. I can't imagine how everything must have been for you going through that.
Thank goodness for those 6 inches - I'm SO glad you're all okay and that it wasn't any worse. So sorry it happened, though. I hope the recovery goes quickly and well.
